Friday's Flowers: Dahlias

My mom, sister and I went to Canby (home of the flock and fiber festival) for the annual dahlia festival and to peruse the fields last weekend. I think we made it down a dozen rows of one aisle of 40 acres. Yep. Forty acres.

We didn't even cover the tip of the proverbial iceberg!

I hope these sunny, warm images help console those mourning the close of summer. I'm really trying to hold in my exuberation for the fall...I can't last much longer...there are less than 18 days remaining. Don't expect miracles.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and for those celebrating it a fantastic Labor day holiday!

See you back on the flip side!

Departing summer hath assumed
An aspect tenderly illumed,
The gentlest look of spring;
That calls from yonder leafy shade
Unfaded, yet prepared to fade,
A timely carolling.
~William Wordsworth

Perfect. My favorite is the top right with the one petal opening. Just gorgeous! I think I need to plant some Dahlias next year.

Thank you for sharing your lovely photos. It's almost like I was there too. Simply breathtaking!

I'll be right there with you celebrating the arrival of fall, but for now, still savoring the final days of summer. :)

Enjoy the long weekend!

We have a huge 4-foot Dahlia in my back yard. I'm secretly scared that one day it will lean over as I walk past and eat me alive...

Love the pics!

The Saturday quote is a good one...Nature Quote of the Day
I've always regarded nature as the clothing of God. - Alex Hovhaness...It reminds me of one of the finest sentences I have read this year...color is the child of light. I have always known this, I always tell people it is the physics of the light that makes beautiful yarn glow...yet...What a simple statement of truth to throw you over the edge of inpiration and creativity. This blog brings that to me. Thank you NeuroKnitter. Thank you for the joy and beauty that cause me to want to jump off of the cliff of inspiration and fly. Happy 16 days until the Equinox...I am thrilled!
