welcome winter

for the learned it is the season of the harvest.

new

It's almost winter...officially; by looking out the window...it's here.

My toes feel the cold...new socks are in order!

I pulled out my stitch dictionaries...picked something that looked memorizable, textured - but not too finicky, and immediately cast-on with my new favorite cast-on.

I even perused the stash and pulled out this lovely Sanguine Gryphon Bugga yarn in 'tulip tree beauty'.

My toes aren't warm just yet...but soonsoonsoon!

We turn not older with years,
but newer every day.

winter green

Winter is unabashedly here. The days are crisp and cold...really cold.

Fighting winter is futile. There is nothing to do but embrace it by casting on another new pair of socks!

Almondine by Anne as found here,
in Spring Garden sock yarn from The Woolen Rabbit.

I did a tubular cast-on...as found here. Tres cool method.

Happy Friday!! Happy weekend!! xo

Let us love winter, for it is the spring of genius.

trickster

I saw this color in use a short while ago on Ravelry and had to have it. I just had to!
It's STR 'ghoulash'

While on our way to the coast a few weeks ago, we stopped in Cannon Beach and checked out one of my favorite yarn stores that carries BMFA...Lo and behold...the color was there! woo hoo!

And the pattern...another pair of Intrepid Travelers...what can I say...there's a method to my madness of preferring memorizable patterns...I can travel light and paper free!

But look...the heel is different! By the time I got to the heel I had this book in my hot little hands, and knew I had to try the linen stitch heel instead of the eye of partridge that I was thinking about doing for a change of pace.

Love. It.

Oh yeh....I added a picot edge instead of the original ribbed edging, too...no surprise there, right? LOL!

Oh how this color has brightened up the days around here!

I hope you have a fabulouse weekend! xo

Kind hearts are the gardens,
Kind thoughts are the roots,
Kind words are the flowers,
Kind deeds are the fruits,
Take care of your garden
And keep out the weeds,
Fill it with sunshine
Kind words and kind deeds.

adieu november

Listen ...

With faint dry sound,

Like steps of passing ghosts,

The leaves,

frost-crisp'd,

break free from the trees

 And fall.

Winter's knocking at the door.
Don't let the sunlight fool you.

We've had rain, frost, wind, rain, fog, and more rain.
Really...I think winter stopped politely knocking, and just stormed on in.

This is the perfect yarn for this hat. Perfect.

I cannot endure to waste anything as precious as autumn sunshine by staying in the house.
So I spend almost all the daylight hours in the open air.

peek-a-blue

Something a little old...and a little new.

I started these quite awhile ago, never finished them, and thought I'd get them back in the active queue (and maybe finished!) before the end of the year.

Intrepid Traveler, by me, in STR...I don't remember the color, but it isn't a rare gem or a mill end...so I'm not a poopy! :)

almost a pair

The second pair of toasty twist socks are well underway.

I love the pop of yellow in this colorway.
It definitely brightens the grayer days we've been having.

A little sock sandwich...Top Chef here I come!

I hope you're having a great week!

Autumn wins you best by this its mute appeal to sympathy for its decay.

prodigal of blue

Nature rarer uses yellow
Than another hue;
Saves she all of that for sunsets,
~Prodigal of blue,

Spending scarlet like a woman,
Yellow she affords

Only scantly and selectly,

Like a lover's words.

sweet november

A new month...

...and a new sock on the needles.

You've seen it before...it's Toasty Twist by Teresa Fox

The yarn is an STR mill end (if you like it, you might like ST-1).

Love the pattern.
Love the yarn.
Just how it should be.

light and color
